County Fair

Friday started very early with a 5:30 wake up, well at least for Hubby, Boy1, Boy2 and Princess.  They took the 2 barrows and 2 wethers to a one day show at nearby county fair.  Boy 3 and I stayed home as he did not feel good and neaither did I, fair flu or barn grud- not for sure.  Hubby said he ended up washing the barrows as Boy 2 was getting everyone in the county wet!  Wish I could have seen that:) Boy 2's pig weighed 288lbs and Princesses pig weighed 245lbs, they were in the same class, only 3 classes of barrows, Princesses got 4th and Boy 2 got 6th- this is not what you want, any showmom will tell you that, but today is Sunday and he is now over being beat by his sister!  After a lunch break Boy 1 showed his wethers and was 3rd with his 148lbs lamb and 6th with is 132lb lamb.  I am sorry I missed the kids showing, but what I am most sorry about is that I missed Hubby showing in the group class, Breeders Flock- which he calls Breeders Herd- now that would have been GREAT!

Saturday was another early morning as we decided to take the three Hereford heifers and the Shorthorn heifer back to the nearby county fair for the one day cattle show.  5:30am...again!  This time Cousin A and his friend R went with us and Hubby went to work for awhile.  Kids, A, R and I unloaded, Cousin A was on washrack next to 4 bottle calves, now this is funny, if you ever have been on washrack you know why, Cousin A got soaked! After we washed, kids blowed (Princess made curls in her heifer-uuuuhhh-sigh- learning-learning)  Then Hubby called and asked if we needed anything he was coming, YAY, YIPPEE! Okay, so let me stop and tell you how they haave show order, their county 4H and FFA jr. showmanship, senior showmanship, steer show. Then move on to breeding stock, Angus was first with the county 4H & FFA, then Open show.  This was for all breeds and it took a long while.  Finally, the kids got to show,  June was 1st in her class, Optima (Princess heifer) was 1st in her class and Champion Hereford and Daquarhi (Boy 1's heifer) was 2nd to Optima and Reserve Hereford.  Boy 1's Shorthorn was Champion Shorthorn was Champion Shorthorn.  At this county fair they have supreme heifer overall and from our county we had 5 out of the 8 and our kids made up 2 of them- way to go our county! Anyway, Princess was Supreme Heifer with her Optima, which Rumor has it her mom will sell in Albin Farms sale this September, (just a side note!)  Princess was very surprised and was smiling from ear to ear.  After we packed our trailed, rather quickly and got home and took nice long COOL showers.

Guess what, someone had to make supper, Hubby went and found a few ears of sweetcorn, which is few and far between with this drought, I made bacon cheeseburgers and potatoe skins and we were all in bed by 9pm.

Sunday morning ( today) all three boys are up before 7:30am and now we are upstairs watching Spirit and waiting a few hours before we make brunch, waffles, scrambled eggs and bacon.  Cousin A and R are to vome back and pick up his September Heifer from K7 that has been here a few days.  We need to unload the trailer and Boy 1 wants to get a halter on FineWine.

Thanks for reading this very long post!

Have A Great Day:)

PS- The owners of K7 Herefords and Albin Farms do not sponsor this blog, I just wanted to give a background on where parts of our herd comes from.
